Creativity Not to Be Missed

July 23rd, 2008 by Trish Monaco

If you’re keeping up with my YT videos then you’ve probably seen this BlogTV Comedy Spoof collab video we did with a bunch of other YouTubers. I’m posting the link in case you missed it. This is the kind of project that makes me wish for better editing software and a more powerful computer. Yes, it’s time for both. I’ll get there.

Even if you’re keeping up with my YT channel, you still may not have seen the following video by vanillawave4peace (I call her Niller, as in ‘nilla). She, PBX and I had breakfast with one of our favorite YouTubers last week: SHAYCARL. He was in Los Angeles for business and was able to squeeze a few free hours to visit with us. So you know, he’s as charismatic, personable and intelligent as his online personality.

The following video is Niller’s concept. PBX and I helped with production but that’s about it. Niller edited the entire thing herself. It’s really good - and so funny! You can watch it here but if you have a YouTube account, please click the link to leave her a comment on the video. She would love that! This stuff isn’t easy. And she made it look really easy.

Live on BlogTV: Take Two

July 9th, 2008 by Trish Monaco

Okay, let’s try this again. Last week I announced that I was going to be live on BlogTV.  I posted that announcement everywhere - my blog, my aol journal, twitter, youtube.  I even tacked a few flyers on lampposts by my house.

I took a quick dip in the pool and dried off, relaxed and ready to go live when BlogTV decided to punk out.  I got emails and IMs about “I can’t get in!!” and “It won’t load.”

I know.  Same happened for me.  It just wasn’t in the cards.  We bagged it and went to stickam instead. It was fun but I’m still determined to make my BlogTV show work.

So I’m taking the plunge again and I’ve scheduled another LIVE SHOW - THURSDAY at 8PM PDT (11PM EDT).

I’d love to see you there!  You don’t have to be a member and you won’t have to get on camera.  You have the option to chat via text.  But you wouldn’t even have to do that.  You can be a creeper-lurker like many who’ve come before.

If you’re interested in knowing about spur-of-the-moment, and other scheduled shows, you can click this link to go to my page now, create a user-name and click SUBSCRIBE.

You can also get alerts if you FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER.

QUESTION: If you are interested in seeing a show, what’s the best day and time for you? Please remember to be specific about your time zone.  (I may turn this question into a poll in the near future.)

Thanks all. Hope to see you live in BlogTV!

What’s Wrong With Me?

June 14th, 2008 by Trish Monaco

About a month ago PBX worked as the Assistant Director on a short film starring a fairly well-known television actress who was on a hit series in the 80s.  Or was it the 90s?  No matter.  Last fall this actress joined a hit series in their fourth season.  A series I had no interest in watching.  I tried, during their first season.  It’s a huge hit.  But it wasn’t with me.

Reluctantly, I offered to show my support by setting the DVR to record the series - that Sunday night show - the one with the girls and their families living on Wisteria Lane - Desperate Housewives?  Yeah, that one.

Houston we have a problem.

I can’t get enough!  For the past few weeks I’ve insisted on watching the show from the very beginning.  Today we’re nearing the end of season one, thanks to Netflix.  And can I tell you…I’m so excited to know there are two more seasons on DVD after this one!

Yes, I’m hooked.  I may be a late bloomer, but I’m totally hooked on the idiotic dramedy on Wisteria Lane.  I want a Poker Tuesday.  I want snooty neighbors and a hot gardener and some mystery to gossip about.

It doesn’t end there.

Tonight we’re going to see Sex and the City, the movie.

What’s wrong with me?  It’s just so girly.  Like, girly-girly.

Back on the MrazSpaz Train

May 19th, 2008 by Trish Monaco

Robbie might be right. I don’t like to share my obsessions. I also don’t like to call them my obsessions. Recently I wrote about my disappointment with the Jason Mraz corporation.

I’ve been missing and longing for the intimacy of just a few hundred in a crowd at a Jason show. I don’t want to share him with thousands (at just one show). I can’t imagine the millions throughout the world. Makes me sad to think I’m just a grain of sand in his fanbase. I also don’t like to call myself a fan.

That said, I’m still subscribed to the Official Jason Mraz YouTube Channel, his MySpace blog and I periodically check in with his website to see if he blogs something different in different parts of the web.

This is the Jason Mraz I love. Like, a lot.

Ironman - I’m a fan

IRONMAN suit

IRONMAN car

Reluctantly I joined PBX and a friend for an afternoon movie in Hollywood. I wasn’t reluctant to join for fun. I was reluctant about the movie choice: Ironman. I just think taking two hours to sit still for a single film is a lot to ask in today’s world. In my world today, that is.

Our friend arrived earlier and bought our tickets for us. Naturally we were running late. We knew the movie would probably be sold out so we were concerned about finding seats together. Little did we know the Arclight Theater sells assigned seating. Nice.

I settled into my second-row aisle seat, preparing to nap, because as I said, I had no interest in seeing Ironman.

There was no nap.

Know what I love? When I’m pleasantly surprised by my overwhelming love for a film I never would’ve chosen to see on my own.

By the middle of the film I was cheering for the main character Tony Stark - who I am completely in love with. I mean, I liked Robert Downey Jr. before seeing this movie but now I’m head-over-heals in love with him.

So much in love that when we came out of the theater and saw the above Ironman Suit (pictured) on display - the same one I rolled my eyes at on the way in - I went goo-goo-gah-gah when I read the sign at its feet:

Actual suit worn by Robert Downey Jr. in Ironman

Our friend leaned in and joked, “It might still smell like him.” PBX captured my gah-ness on video (proof coming soon). I felt (and looked and sounded) like a kid on vacation in a foreign land. Sixteen years in this town and I was the biggest tourist-dork in sight.

I don’t care. It was awesome! I’m an Ironman fan. He’s going to save the world.

Oh yeah, and pictured is the car he drove to the red carpet gathering in the movie.

Yup. Starstruck. That’s me. I hate it. But I can’t help it.

THE SHAYCARL SONG

March 5th, 2008 by Trish Monaco

the shaycarl song imageSo there’s this guy … on YouTube, who I’ve recently subscribed to, because he’s genuinely funny.  I suppose you can guess his name is Shaycarl.

He’s my new favorite comedian.  He makes it look easy. I think the fact that he has three kids and still finds time to make these great entertaining videos is amazing in itself.

So this guy has a beautiful wife who took over his channel one day, informing viewers that Shay’s birthday is this month. Awww.

But that’s not the whole point. She wants video responses. The one who wishes Shaycarl happy birthday in the most creative, funny way will win the first ever Shaycarl t-shirt given to the public!

I want that t-shirt.

Here’s my video response - THE SHAYCARL SONG

Tag

May 10th, 2007 by Trish Monaco

It’s been ages since I’ve played a game of Tag. Well, now ten of us are “it” according to Maria. Thanks girly. I appreciate your support of my procrastination. :)

The Rules:
01. I will write 10 interesting (?) things about myself.
02. Then tag 10 people.
03. If you’ve been tagged, do your own list and tag 10 more people. (no “tag backs”)

MY TEN THINGS

01. I’m the slowest grad school application-filler-outter on the planet.

02. I’ve been on TV, in movies and on the radio.

03. A reporter recently interviewed me and my blog for a Playboy article.

04. I danced with Paula Abdul at her house - long before her comeback as whatever-it-is-that-makes-her-famous-today.

05. I’ve gone cross-country by car four times - and I will do it two more times by the end of this year.

06. I’ve worked in so many industries/fields that I can hardly keep track: Entertainment, PR, Media, Production, Sports, Import/Export, Sales, Publishing, Education, Housekeeping, Computers, Childcare, Dog Walking, Music, Stage, Advertising…

07. I’m back on the vegetarian path but my body craves meat.

08. I eat the same junk food as always - plus I’ve been working out almost two hours a day - and still, I have weighed the exact same amount (to the ounce) for the last seven weeks.

09. According to my favorite Auntie, I look much older on my blog than I do in person.

10. I ate way too much ice cream last night.

I tag the following ten people to post their ten things:
Robbie
Gigi
Mary
Steven
Wil
Donna
Remo
Grace
Colleen
Amy

Geeeeez, that was more difficult than coming up with ten things…

Weekend Recap

March 12th, 2007 by Trish Monaco

We were scheduled to see a free movie screening Friday night but opted to join some colleagues for some delicious Indian food and interesting conversation. Just writing about it makes my mouth water for some gobi aloo or saag paneer. I shudder at spicy-hot food but Gate of India offered their dishes served-to-taste. Yum. I’m a sucker for some bland dal and basmati rice.

Spent a few hours weeding the walkway in the back yard. I’m so out of shape. Crouching, pulling, bending, tugging, digging, raking and clipping make for an achy lower back. When did this happen?

Finally watched Babel. While I truly enjoyed the film, I found it to be quite predictable. Just a few questions were left unanswered. Seems to be a trend this film season, as I found Children of Men to have more holes in its story than swiss cheese. But apparently, that’s just me.

Maggie-May went home this weekend. After the initial power-struggle days, things really calmed down. We kept the dogs separated when we couldn’t keep our eyes on them. It became an easy routine, just in time for her to go home.

Also in time for another dog to join our sleep-over camp for the week. Zoe arrived today. She’s the sweetest and lowest-maintenance dog I’ve ever met. We adore her.

Gracie-kitty ran the streets while we were out the other night. We returned home to her greeting at the front gate - with the stench of initiation. As if all the neighborhood cats marked her as their territory. Reeeeek!

We bathed her immediately. Just as I announced how easy she was to bathe, she struck a claw through my index finger. That’s right, through. There are two puncture marks - the entrance and exit. My fault for pulling away.

I’m not so sure she’s still as fond of the shower anymore. But she’s clean. The little hussy.

One of the dogs I walk daily had another seizure on Friday night. So to keep an eye on her and the other dog in their house, I’ve spent Saturday and Sunday night sitting with them. Literally dog-sitting. She’s doing well.

I’m doing a ton of writing!

Can hardly wait to get home to watch The Amazing Race and The L Word. They automatically get recorded and it’s pretty typical of us to watch them at a later date. I try to avoid reading blogs and news until I’ve watched the recorded shows.

I may have screwed up by doing a google blog search on Rob & Amber earlier tonight. It’s my own fault. I’m watching the Fox Reality channel. Never heard of it, till now. There’s a really bad fake reality show starring Rob & Amber, about the two of them moving to Vegas so Rob can pursue his dream of being a professional poker player. When I did the search, I think I may have hit a spoiler from tonight’s Amazing Race. God, I hope I’m wrong. I closed the search window as quickly as I could. But still, it’ll be in the back of my mind while watching later.

Daylight Savings Time is in full effect. Yay. But it was a hundred degrees today. Here we go!

I’m still craving Indian food.

Annabella Sciorra

March 5th, 2007 by Trish Monaco

Just when we’re about to cancel Showtime, the hottest actress on the planet shows up on The L Word.

What’s a girl to do but wait it out.

We’re nearing the last few episodes in the season. I think we can handle one more month of Showtime.

Come on Sunday already!
